Alta Floresta
Alta Floresta is 870 kilometres from Cuiabá, at the edge of the Amazon Rainforest in northern part of Mato Grosso. The city was founded by gold prospectors during the 1980s and 1990s. In those days much of the surrounding forest was cut down by gold prospectors and other intruders and that posed a real threat to the area's natural environment.
Nowadays, the area is under government protection and renowned for its eco-tourism. Eco-tourists will feel right at home when staying in the comfortable lodges of Alta Floresta set in gorgeous surroundings.
Bird watchers and nature lovers will be spoilt here, as the area is considered one of the best in the Brazilian Amazon for spotting rare species of birds and mammals like the White-Nosed Bearded Saki monkey, Giant River Otter and Three-Toed Sloth.

Miranda
Miranda is a quiet little town on route to Corumbá and the Bolivian border. The town has little in the way of recreational facilities, but it does have a particular charm all of its own, with its river with rows of trees and colourful houses along it is perfect for fishing and snorkelling in. Although Miranda is primarily a starting point when visiting the southern Pantanal region, you'll enjoy the remarkable fauna in and around the town.
