Recife
Recife, capital city of Pernambuco State, is reminiscent of Venice, with its numerous waterways and bridges, although the comparison ends there. Recife has beautiful neighbourhoods and fabulous beaches, among which Boa Viagem, one of the best spots for beach lovers.
During the day the historic city centre is buzzing with life. However, in the evenings you'll find it a lot quieter.
The local cuisine is varied and the exotic fruits are particularly delicious. The best fresh fruit - seriguela, acerola, caja and mangaba - can be bought at the market and there are some excellent fish restaurants in the Pina area along the coast.
The Boa Vista area has some of the best hotels and this is also the safest part of the city, as it should also be noted that the city has a number of shanty districts.
You can also swing past Olinda, a lovely place and once a Dutch colony. It is situated on a hill and from this location you can enjoy magnificent, panoramic views of the area.
