Florianópolis
Florianópolis, the capital city of Santa Catarina State, is on an island off the south coast of Brazil. In the summertime, it's a popular holiday destination for Brazilians, but also for Argentinians and tourists from further afield.
Florianópolis is beautifully situated; it's surrounded by mountains with subtropical forests, rivers, quaint fishing villages and last but not least - fantastic beaches! The beaches of Santa Catarina are easy to get to sheer paradise for surfers and beach lovers alike.
Suspension bridges connect Florianópolis to the mainland. The Largo da Alfândega, to the right of these bridges, provides a fantastic view of the old city. Historical places of interest are mainly concentrated in the centre of Florianópolis. You'll also find a great choice of restaurants and in the evening the streets become a hive of activity and are filled with the sound of live music. During the annual Carnival festival, samba groups parade flamboyantly through the streets of the city.
