Foz do Iguaçu
Tourism has developed rapidly in the city of Foz do Iguaçu in recent years. There are also busy
trade links with Ciudad del Este in Paraguay, where duty-free goods are bought and resold all over Brazil.
Foz do Iguaçu is a good starting point when visiting the waterfalls of Iguaçu, which are among the most beautiful in the world and open all year round. This awe-inspiring natural phenomenon is situated at the point where three countries meet: Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. Iguaçu means 'big water' in Guaraní, the language of the native Indians who once inhabited the region. The name 'big water' is certainly no overstatement, as the amount of water flowing here is infinite. The waterfalls provide a breathtaking spectacle over a distance of some 2.5 km in the middle of a tropical forest. It's no accident that the film 'The Mission' was shot in these unique surroundings!
